Job Description
The Role
As Senior Retail Manager, you will lead the execution and operational performance of the retail business, with a focus on acquiring, servicing, and retaining C&I customers. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for executing an ambitious growth strategy, scaling the retail function, and expanding our presence across Australia. Reporting to the Chief of Energy Markets, you will build and lead a high-performing team across sales, account management, and retail operations to position Potentia Energy as the partner of choice for large energy users seeking renewable energy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth Execution
Progress and implement the retail growth strategy aligned with the company’s growth targets and energy transition objectives.
Drive customer acquisition and revenue growth in the C&I segment through traditional and innovative market offerings and strategic partnerships.
Build and scale the retail function, including hiring, developing, and mentoring a capable, motivated, and performance-driven team.
Drive product development and innovation, including offerings related to demand flexibility, battery integration, and solar.
Identify and pursue new market opportunities including expansion into new geographies, industry verticals, or product lines.
Sales & Business Development
Lead and grow the retail sales function.
Cultivate key relationships with large energy customers, consultants, brokers, and industry stakeholders.
Oversee large deal negotiations, tender responses, and the development of tailored commercial offerings.
Commercial Performance
Manage the retail P&L, ensuring sustained volume growth, gross margin optimisation, and disciplined cost control.
Collaborate with trading, risk, and finance teams to align customer contracting with hedge strategy and compliance obligations.
Manage credit exposure and customer payment performance in coordination with the finance function.
Customer Experience & Operations
Oversee account management, billing, and customer service to ensure a seamless and differentiated customer experience.
Lead initiatives to enhance digital capabilities, customer self-service, and data-driven insights.
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks including National Electricity Rules, NECF, and retail licensing obligations.
Represent the company in industry forums, policy consultations, and market stakeholder engagements.
Desired Skills and Experience
Selection Criteria
8+ years’ experience in the Australian energy sector, with experience in leadership roles in electricity retail.
Proven experience leading C&I market strategy and delivering strong growth outcomes.
Strong track record of managing high-performing teams across commercial and operational domains.
Deep knowledge of retail energy pricing, contracting, customer lifecycle management, and regulatory requirements.
Desirable
Familiarity with LGC-backed products, renewable PPAs/VPPAs, or bespoke sustainability solutions.
Experience in billing systems, CRM tools, data management and customer analytics in the energy sector.
Understanding of wholesale trading interfaces and hedge product integration with retail offerings.
