Job Description
The Role
Employment Status: Full Time, parental leave cover from mid June 2025 to mid June 2026
Location: Sydney
Reporting to the Head of HSEQ & Sustainability, the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Specialist is responsible for overseeing HSEQ aspects around the ongoing projects.
The HSEQ Specialist will coordinate documentation preparation, lead the implementation of several processes, procedures and policies into our projects. The role will also support to asses/mitigate risk based on local statutory and Potentia Energy’s requirements.
This role is based at our Sydney office with travel to project sites when required.
Key Responsibilities
Development of local HSEQ policies, procedures, guidelines, and technical specifications
Review and negotiate with contractors on HSE-elements for major and minor contracts for site works and corporate activities.
Establish HSE budgets for projects and review implementation periodically
Review contractor management plans against company standards and regulative framework.
Check minimum HSE requirements during tender process and monitoring of the Contractors’ performance
Liaise with site team for control of HSE documentation and, if necessary, make amendments
Implement and monitor all initiatives aimed at improving safety and environmental standards.
Draw up periodic reporting of KPIs to manage safety and environmental issues for sites in compliance with Potentia Energy Group’s requirements, local regulations and those required by other interested parties.
Participate in investigation of Accidents/Incidents by analysing the information, determining the root cause, identifying risk control measures and formulating report and action plan for further implementation.
Organize internal HSE Audits, inspections with Contractors and Sub-Contractors in order to verify the effectiveness of the HSE Management System.
Maintain compliance reporting of internal audit, client audit, external audit & tracking system
Carry out visits to site in order to eliminate or reduce the risks of occupational health and safety and / or environmental in the worksites activities
Ensure compliance of design deliverables with reference to safety and environment aspects
Selection Criteria
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree qualification in WHS/HSEQ discipline
At least 5 years' experience in HSE roles within construction &/ or Operation & Maintenance
Experience in:
Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment expertise
Root cause Analysis techniques in Incident Investigation (ICAM or TapRooT desired)
Experience in training as auditor for Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001)
Regular driver’s license required
Skills and Competencies
Excellent teamwork, coordination, detail orientation and communication skills (written & oral)
Leadership skills with focus on safety, integrity and empowerment
Ability to multi-task and communicate well in a busy work environment
This role involves some domestic travel to construction sites around Australia to support with:
Implementation of HSEQ-related campaigns
Periodic corporate HSE-site visits and auditing
Root-cause analysis incident investigation
