Job Description

The Role

We are seeking a dynamic Regional Business Development Manager based in Western Australia (WA) to lead engagement with relevant stakeholders, such as communities and government authorities, as councils, public utilities and network service operators. This role will be pivotal in stakeholder relations, ensuring strong connections with key partners while originating opportunities to support Potentia’s growth in WA. The successful candidate will also support the development of renewable energy projects, managing activities from early-stage development to financial close.

Given the numerous crossover functions in this role, you will report into the Head of Business Development with a dotted line to the Head of Strategy and Transactions.

This role will ensure the successful origination, development and delivery of projects, build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, and contribute to the organization’s broader objectives in achieving sustainable energy solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Development Pipeline Management

  • Oversee the WA renewable energy pipeline, including planning and development of solar, wind and battery storage projects.   
  • Develop, present reports and presentations for Senior/Executive Management team.
  • Manage risk across the pipeline, identifying and mitigating potential project challenges.
  • Develop and implement strategies to align the WA portfolio with corporate objectives and sustainability goals.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities for renewable energy projects or partnerships in Western Australia.
  • Advocate for renewable energy initiatives with industry groups, policymakers, and the wider community.
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments in the renewable energy sector.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and environmental standards applicable to renewable energy projects in Western Australia.
  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to secure approvals, licenses, and permits for ongoing and upcoming projects.

 

2. Stakeholder Engagement and Liaison

  • Act as the primary point of contact for high-level stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory authorities, local councils, shareholders, CEOs, and industry advisors.
  • Actively engage and foster relationships with key project stakeholders, including landowners, local authorities and TNSP/DNSPs and AEMO/Western Power.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant authorities to facilitate permits, approvals, and regulatory compliance.
  • Represent the organization in high-level discussions, negotiations, and public forums to promote projects and organizational goals.

Desired Skills and Experience

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, business, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience managing large-scale renewable energy portfolios, including experience in WA.
  • Strong understanding of the renewable energy sector, including regulations, market trends, and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with senior stakeholders such as government officials, CEOs, shareholders, and advisors.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of WA’s regulatory environment and renewable energy landscape.
